Constellium seeks to double its ABS fabricated profile supply in the years ahead
In May 2017, Constellium N.V. declared that it had entered into a multi-year contract with German conglomerate Robert Bosch GMBH to provide Anti-lock Braking System profiles for the automobile industry. This collaboration seeks to reinforce the strategic partnership that Constellium’s Decin manufacturing unitin the Czech Republic has had with Bosch since 2009. Under the terms of this new agreement, Constellium will continue the supply of its unique, innovative aluminium alloys that are individually customised for specific solutions to adhere to stringent delivery and quality guidelines. By raising production volume by several million pieces every year, additional solutions can be provided to Bosch plants globally in the long run. This is anticipated to double overall volume targets every year, subject to a ramp-up of ABS future solutions and the demand predicted in the automobile industry.
Paul Warton, Constellium's Automotive Structures and Industry President stated that the contract should only strengthen the company’s longstanding partnership with Bosch. He further said that the contract proves Constellium’s proficiency as a tailored solution provider in the automobile industry. As the company has an R&D-centric approach, they are very happy to collaborate with Bosch to develop next-generation solutions for their customers’ discerning requirements. The contract agreed upon will also boost the production capacity of the Decin plant in the future. Robert Bosch has the rare distinction of being the first company to introduce ABS technology into the market in 1978. Therefore, it is hardly surprising that it is considered a leader in the Automotive Brake System & Components Market. As aluminium has begun to replace steel in automobiles, Constellium has become a major supplier of lightweight yet rigid vehicle solutions such as ABS body profiles. This helps allow automobile manufacturers to decrease the vehicle mass while improving the comfort, performance, and safety. As a complete service solution supplier, Constellium works together with customers leading to industry leading process and product innovations.
Constellium’s Decin unit produces personalised aluminium extrusions in both hard and soft alloys for a number of finishes to serve the global Automotive Brake System & Components Market. The Decin plant is the biggest integrated hard alloy facility in the EU and it has approx. 650 employees working full-time at the premises. The location has 12 presses for indirect and direct extrusion production, equipment for further downstream operations, and an integrated foundry. Constellium is a global leader that creates value-added, innovative aluminium products for a diverse range of applications and markets such as packaging, automotive, and aerospace.
