  • The first Philippine business to install a battery storage system, SMC Global Power Holdings, said in June 2021 that it would invest almost USD 1 billion to construct nearly 1 GW of battery storage capacity over 31 sites. Additionally, ABB stated that it would be commissioning three pre-packaged BESS systems for SMC in 2021 (two 20MW and one 40MW). After announcing the commissioning of two BESS projects in the Philippines, totalling 60MW/60MWh, as part of a 100MW deal with SMC, Wartsila made a similar declaration. Two 20MW / 20MWh BESS projects for SMC were successfully commissioned by Fluence in June 2021.

Rising Investment in R&D to Harness Full Potential

Rise in the energy demand and depleting fossil fuels is pushing the market towards non-conventional sources of energy. Energy demand is expected to increase by 70% between 2012 and 2035.
